How it works

The URL is parsed with the browser's native URL API, so malformed input is caught the same way a browser itself would reject it. With tracking-parameter stripping on, a fixed list of common analytics and ad parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, fbclid, gclid, msclkid, and a few others) is removed while any other query parameters are left alone, since only you know whether the rest actually change the page's content.

Nothing here fetches the URL, it only formats the text you provide. No request is made anywhere.

Common questions

What does a canonical tag actually do?

It tells search engines which URL is the "real" one when the same content is reachable through more than one address, like with and without a trailing slash, or with tracking parameters. Search engines then consolidate ranking signals onto that one URL instead of splitting them across duplicates.

Why does the tool strip query parameters?

By default it removes common tracking parameters (utm_*, fbclid, gclid, and similar) since a canonical URL is supposed to represent the content itself, not the specific link someone clicked. Toggle it off if your URL's query parameters actually change the page content and need to stay.

Is my URL sent anywhere?

No, the tag is generated entirely in your browser using the URL you type. Nothing is uploaded, and no request is made to the URL itself.
